Michael Schwartz, MD: First in TX to Use the Newest, Wireless Camera in Surgery

FRISCO, TX—Dr. Michael Schwartz recently had the honor of being the first orthopedic surgeon in Texas to perform arthroscopic surgeries with the new wireless camera system from ArthroFree®. This wireless camera is used in minimally invasive surgery to help the surgeon visualize the site they are operating on and the instruments they use. It eliminates conventional camera cables that tether surgeons to the surgical tower and hinder their movement. Because of that, the ArthroFree® Wireless Camera System is safer, faster, and requires less time for sterilization following a procedure. This can make surgeries with a wireless camera more economical than wired camera systems. Another advantage of this new system is that it features a low-heat, high-powered light technology, which eliminates the chance of any camera-related patient burns or potential fires in the operating room.

Dr. Schwartz completed multiple arthroscopic procedures on both knees and shoulders at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center of Frisco. He experienced first-hand the ergonomic features of the new camera that allowed him to move freely in the operating room without cords and cables. “The camera was easy to use, it worked well and had great visualization, said Dr. Schwartz. “It was great to eliminate some of the cords usually required for this type of surgery. This new camera made it less likely to get multiple instruments tangled and impede their use. It is great to have the technology available to us,” he added.

Dr. Schwartz is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder. He was the former president of OrthoTexas. Dr. Schwartz is the team physician for the Allen Americans professional hockey team. He is a member of the board of directors at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center of Frisco.
