CLEVELAND, OH—Lazurite®, a leading medical device and technology company, conducted a usability study to assess the functionality of the ArthroFree camera system, focusing on its application by ENT surgeons in both operating rooms (OR) and clinics.
Surgeons were engaged through clinical evaluations or hands-on demonstrations, during which they reviewed key features of ArthroFree, including its wireless design, visualization quality, size, weight, and battery life
Wireless Design
A frequent point of feedback from participants centered around the inconvenience of cords in existing systems, often referred to as “cord spaghetti.” Many surgeons noted that ArthroFree’s wireless design could significantly enhance efficiency and offer ergonomic benefits in their practices.
Visualization Quality
ArthroFree’s visualization quality received unanimously positive feedback from participating surgeons, who praised the system’s image clarity, brightness, and overall performance.
Size and Weight
The majority of participants found the camera’s weight to be acceptable, particularly for clinical use. The weight of 18 competing camera heads from six manufacturers was also reviewed, with eight weighing more than ArthroFree and ten weighing less. Importantly, the comparison did not account for the additional weight from power and light cables, which could add extra strain on competing devices.
Battery Life
While many surgeons felt the battery life was adequate, particularly for clinic settings, some expressed concerns regarding its sufficiency for longer OR procedures. However, the ArthroFree camera has been successfully used in orthopedic surgeries, where the battery swapping process has not generated negative feedback, even for extended cases.
Overall Reception
ENT surgeons expressed overwhelmingly positive reactions to ArthroFree, with comments such as, “It’s a really good product,” and “I would like to see this camera used both in my clinic and in the OR.” Another surgeon emphasized its superiority by stating, “I want it to replace all the other systems that we have.” Comparatively, they found ArthroFree’s cordless design to be “leaps and bounds improved” over other systems available on the market.
